These days, trees need a hug.
Driving along the Garden State Parkway, or between Philadelphia and Cape May, it may not be obvious that trees are suffering in South Jersey, but they are. Extreme weather, overdevelopment, the spotted lantern fly are just a few of the threats.
Over the years, American chestnut trees, American elms, maple trees have all been threatened...More recently, the southern pine beetle has invaded pine forests in South Jersey. Closing in are new threats just beyond our border, including oak wilt, which threaten our state tree, the northern red oak, already under attack in South Jersey by bacterial leaf scorch.*
While there are plenty of resources for our urban counterparts, South Jersey trees also need support, and that's how I Give A Tree was born.
